Running Shoes are extremely important to your performance and it is essential that you choose the shoe that suits you the best. Selecting the correct shoe can make a huge difference to your running, your training and your times. It can also go a long way towards preventing injuries.

There are three main categories of shoes: cushioned, stability and motion-control. When deciding which is most suited for you the following can be used as a rough guide.

The Normal Foot - normally lands on the outside of the heel and rolls inwards slightly to absorb the shock. This efficient style does not require much assistance and the athlete does not require any special features in his choice of running shoe. Most neutral shoes will be OK. They should be fairly stable.

The Flat Foot - has a low arch. Normally strikes on the outside of the heel and rolls inwards quite markedly. This runner should select a more stable running shoe with firm midsole. They should avoid highly curved or cushioned running shoes.

The High Arch Foot - this foot does not absorb shock well. Very often they strike with the front of the foot. They need a flexible highly cushioned shoe. Avoid highly controlled or high stability running shoes.

Modern running shoes are very well constructed. There are a number leading brands which you can purchase with confidence. Some of these are New Balance, Addidas, Puma, Reebok, Sacouny, Nike, Brooks and Asics
